Accident kills one man, seriously injures two others

Missouri State police reported a deadly accident on westbound Highway 364 on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. The accident occurred at the Page Avenue Extension just west of the Maryland Heights Expressway. A Chevrolet Venture van struck the back of a car, flipping it over several times. The van was driven by 22-year old John Recklein of St. Charles. His van ran into another vehicle and then off the roadway ultimately overturning several times around 5:30 p.m. Rocklein was thrown from the vehicle Both he and a 17- year old passengar, Natasha Galenski of St. Peters, were rushed to Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur. 23- year old Jared Nevenner of Caseyville, Illinois also was a passengar in that car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another occupant had minor injuries. The cause of this tragic accident is not known at this time.

Illinois college students killed in tragic automobile accident

A tragic automobile accident occurred over the weekend involving five people, two of whom were killed. Marielle Carson and Latisha Ray lived in Carbondale, Illinois on Park Street. Carson had been visiting with her family for Easter hours before the accident. According to the three back-seat survivors, Carson was travelling on a road which lead directly into Cedar Lake. Apparently the driver did not realize the lake was there. The gate near the lake was open and the road is very steep. The road essentially becomes a boat ramp into the lake. The driver slammed on her brakes but was unable to stop the car from going into the lake. The back seat occupants were able to escape from the sunken car while the two women in the front were not. They were not hurt by the impact though and tried to escape. Carbondale city officials acknowledge the danger and said they tried to light the signage warning of the upcoming lake. The ooroner reports that there were no signs of drug or alcohol impairment.

Inattentive driver kills man on motorcycle

Dorman H. Pentecost, 47, was killed in a vehicular accident on March 19, 2012. Pentecost was driving a motorcycle westbound on I-270. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, he was driving slowly because of mechanical problems with the motorcycle. He was driving in the slow lane and approaching the Washington Street/Elizabeth Avenue exit. Another driver in the same lane as Pentecost struck the rear of Pentecost's motorcycle and caused him to be thrown from the vehicle. Pentecost was pronounced dead by the St. Louis County Medical Examiner at 10:20 p.m. The driver of the vehicle who struck Pentecost was not injured in the accident.

Jefferson County woman killed in car accident

Billy J. Grass, 41, of High Ridge was killed in an accident which occurred on Old Sugar Creek Road April 16, 2012. The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Emily M. Yowell, 32, of Fenton, Missouri was seriously injured in that same accident. Yowell was a passenger in the car being driven by Grass. Grass was driving a 1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT south on Old Sugar Creek Road and crossed the center lane after losing control of the vehicle and veered off the roadway and crashed headlong into a tree. Billy Grass was pronounced dead at the scene. Emily Yowell was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in serious condition. She is listed in critical condition today at Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur. Unfortunately neither women was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Missouri man severely injured in explosion at fireworks factory

Judson Ray was severly injured in March after a fireworks explosion at his job at Global Pyrotec Solutions Company. The 33-year old has worked for Global Pyrotec for ten years. Violet Ray, Jud's mother, said that her son was badly burned over his body and face. She witnessed three other explosions in the fifteen years in which she worked for Global Pyrotec and its predecessor companies. Two other men were also injured in the March 2012 explosion. Some former employees have questionned the training of the workiers and the general safety at the facility. Federal investigators do not know how the explosion occurred but are ruling it an accident.

Multiple vehicle accident in Jefferson County

Mason M. Lucas, a 7-year old Pacific boy, is in serious condition after being the victim of a multiple vehicle accident which occurred in Jefferson County, Missouri on April 10, 2012. Timothy Hulsey, a 16-year old Pacific driver, was southbound on Route F. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Hulsey was inattentive to the Lucas vehicle which was stopped in the roadway, waiting to turn left. The front of Hulsey's vehicle struck the rear of the Lucas family vehicle. The Lucas' were then pushed into the northbound lane of Route F and subsequently struck in the front by a third vehicle. The driver of the third vehicle was also injured.

St. Louis man killed in fire

A St. Louis man was killed today in a one-story fire in southwest St. Louis. The tragic fire occurred on 5900 Hilgard Place around 1:45 p.m.The fire is under investigation. David Roche died in the fire. David Roche was 83 years old and is survived by his wife, Vivian Roche. This house fire happened in the St. Louis Hills neighborhood. The fire was burning very hard and fast by the time firefighters arrived on the scene. There was heavy smoke and flames. The Roche's next-door neighbor, Marian Riley, had called 911 and she is devastated by the loss. David Roche was alone at the time of the fire. His wife was at her job at Schnucks bakery at Hampton and Gravois avenues when the fire began. She quickly returned once notified. No cause of the fire has been determined. David Roche served in the Marines and frequently volunteered at the St. Louis Science Center.

Several young students were seriously injured recently when the school bus they were returning home on overturned and trapped them inside. The horrible accident occurred on Highway C in Belgrade, Mo. Belgrade is located in the south central portion of WashingtonCounty and about 85 miles southwest of St. Louis. The students on the bus ranged in age from kindergarter through high school. The students were from the Valley R-6 School District. That school district has about 400 students and is located in Caledonia, Missouri.

Tow truck driver killed in hit and run

A hit and run driver killed a tow truck driver along Interstate 70 on April 16, 2012. David Bense Sr., 51, was killed while he was making his last work call of his shift. Police subsequently arrested the 21-year old driver but have not released his name. Bense was employed with AAA. He had stopped to help a motorist around 9:20 on eastbound 70 near West Florissant Avenue when a white sedan plowed into him. The driver was subsequently arrested at 11th and Salisbury Streets. AAA spokesperson, Mike Right, said this is the first fatality in the St. Louis area of any AAA driver since the company began providing roadside service about ten years ago.

Tragic house fire kills two female SIUE students

An accidental house fire has claimed the lives of two young SIUE students. Lauren Petersen, 19, and Lacy Siddall, 21, both of Bethalto, died Monday morning from injuries sustained in a house fire which occurred on Sunday. An initial investigation indicated that a laptop computer was resting on a bed and plugged into a power strip along with other electrical devices. Fire officials have suggested that this may have been the point of origin for the deadly fire. The apartments had recently been renovated. A prayer service will be held at the Center for Spirituality and Sustainability on Thursday at 6:15.
