John Medler, Personal Injury Attorney

John Medler is a trial lawyer with more than 35 years of experience representing individuals and families inserious personal injury and wrongful death cases. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation as a relentless courtroom advocate who prepares cases to be tried and believes the justice system works best when juries are allowed to hold wrongdoers accountable.

John is a founding partner of the Medler Law Firm, which he formed alongside his wife and law partner, Tammy Medler. Together, they have spent decades litigating cases on behalf of injured clients and their families, securing tens of millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements. In 2025, John and Tammy were proud to be joined in their practice by their son, Ryan Medler, one of the up and-coming trial lawyers in Los Angeles.

John is a Lifetime Member of both the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum — organizations limited to attorneys who have obtained significant verdicts and settlements on behalf of their clients. His career results include a $17 million products liability and dangerous condition settlement, involving faulty vehicle brakes and a dangerously designed roadway; a $15 million electrocution wrongful death judgment; a $14 million helicopter crash verdict; an $11 million airplane crash verdict; a $7.3 million insurance bad-faith settlement; a $7 million pedestrian wrongful death judgment; a $5.8 million fraud and invasion of privacy judgment; a $3 million insurance bad-faith settlement; a $2 million trucking accident judgment; and many more seven-figure recoveries for clients suffering serious injuries.

John has been repeatedly recognized by peers and independent legal organizations for excellence in trial advocacy. He holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest distinction awarded for legal ability and ethical standards, and is one of the few attorneys to be board-certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA). He has also received the Milton F. Napier Trial Prize, the Lewis Powell Jr. Trial Award, and the Golden Quill Legal Writing Award, and has been published in numerous legal magazines. John’s commitment to helping others extends beyond the courtroom. He is the recipient of the SBC Vail Award and the Humanitarian Lifesaver Award from the American Red Cross and KSDK Channel 5, honoring him for saving a coworker’s life during a medical emergency. He is also a member of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA) and  regularly attends Los Angeles Trial Lawyers’ Charities (LATLC) events. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, John obtained an undergraduate degree at Brown University, and his juris doctor from Washington University in 1988. He and his wife, Tammy Medler, founded their plaintiff-side personal injury practice in St. Louis, before relocating the firm to California in 2018. John is proud to stand up to insurance companies and corporate defendants that refuse to do the right thing, and he remains energized to continue that fight on behalf of injured clients for years to come.
