Authorities in Los Angeles have arrested a suspect following a fatal hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of a 73-year-old bicyclist early Friday morning, March 13, 2026. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. near the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Vermont Avenue. Investigators reported that a white Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Olympic Boulevard when the driver attempted to make a right turn onto southbound Vermont Avenue. During the turn, the vehicle struck a bicyclist who was riding through the crosswalk along Olympic Boulevard.
Following the collision, the driver reportedly stopped briefly before reversing the truck and leaving the scene without providing assistance or identifying themselves. Authorities said the suspect then continued eastbound on Olympic Boulevard toward southbound Menlo Avenue. Emergency responders arrived shortly after the crash and transported the injured bicyclist to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, the victim later died as a result of the injuries sustained in the collision.
Officials have not yet publicly released the victim’s identity as they continue working to notify the victim’s family. During the investigation, police located a vehicle matching the description of the Dodge Ram believed to have been involved in the crash. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody by law enforcement officials. Investigators indicated that possible drug impairment may have played a role in the collision. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether alcohol was also a contributing factor. The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing as police continue to gather additional information.
