One person was killed and at least two others were hospitalized following a three-vehicle crash involving an Amazon truck on the 5 Freeway in Norwalk on September 10, 2026. The collision was reported at approximately 12:10 a.m. on the southbound 5 Freeway near Rosecrans Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, an Amazon truck, a cargo van, and a passenger car were involved in the crash. The force of the collision caused the cargo van to overturn on the freeway. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported at least three people to local hospitals for medical treatment. One of the hospitalized victims later died from injuries sustained in the collision.
Authorities have not disclosed which of the three vehicles the deceased victim occupied. Officials also have not released the identities or conditions of the other people who were hospitalized. The crash prompted authorities to temporarily close all southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway except for the carpool lane while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene. The circumstances leading to the collision, including which vehicle or vehicles may have caused the crash, have not yet been determined. The California Highway Patrol continues investigating the fatal multi-vehicle crash.
