A pedestrian was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on the westbound 10 Freeway in Los Angeles’ Pico-Union neighborhood during the early morning hours of August 3, 2026. According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash was reported at approximately 3:45 a.m. near the Vermont Avenue exit, just west of the 110 Freeway interchange. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found that the collision involved a pedestrian and multiple vehicles. The severity of the crash forced authorities to close all but one westbound lane while investigators documented the scene and crews cleared the roadway. The resulting SigAlert caused major traffic delays as thousands of commuters were forced to navigate miles of backed-up traffic during the morning rush hour. CHP initially estimated the freeway would reopen by 6:30 a.m., but the closure was extended for an additional 30 minutes because of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators have not yet determined why the pedestrian was on the freeway at the time of the collision. Authorities said it remains unclear whether the victim had exited a disabled vehicle or had entered the freeway for another reason before being struck. Officials also have not released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin. It remains unknown whether anyone else suffered injuries in the multi-vehicle crash. The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal freeway collision.
