Two people were killed and a young girl was critically injured in a violent crash in Los Angeles’ Hyde Park neighborhood on the morning of July 10, 2026. The collision occurred just before 10:45 a.m. in the 3300 block of West 78th Street. Family members identified the two people who died as a father and his friend, while the critically injured child was the man’s granddaughter. According to relatives, the family had been on their way to the airport after stopping at a nearby convenience store, where surveillance cameras captured them shopping only minutes before the crash. Investigators said the victims were traveling in a Toyota Camry and were attempting to make a left turn from Crenshaw Boulevard onto West 78th Street when their vehicle was broadsided by a speeding BMW.
Both adults in the Camry were pronounced dead at the scene, while the young girl was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. The driver of the BMW also suffered injuries in the collision. Witnesses told investigators they believed the BMW had been racing a Tesla sedan along Crenshaw Boulevard moments before the deadly crash. Surveillance footage reportedly captured both vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed shortly before impact. One nearby business owner said he heard the cars speeding past and moments later heard a devastating crash that immediately made him fear someone had been killed. The Los Angeles Police Department continues to investigate the collision, including whether illegal street racing played a role in the fatal crash.
