Woman Killed and Driver Critically Injured in Fiery Crash in Garden Grove

A woman was killed and a man was critically injured in a fiery single-vehicle crash in Garden Grove in the early morning on September 26, 2026. The collision was reported at approximately 2:55 a.m. near Knott Street and Acacia Avenue. According to the Garden Grove Police Department, a white 2007 Toyota Highlander crashed into a utility pole at the southeast corner of the intersection. The impact severely damaged the SUV and caused the vehicle to catch fire. Police officers arriving at the scene found both the male driver and female passenger unconscious inside the Highlander. Officers pulled both occupants from the burning vehicle and immediately began lifesaving measures.

Orange County Fire Authority personnel subsequently arrived and took over emergency medical treatment of the victims. Despite rescue efforts, the female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver was transported to UCI Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Video from the scene showed the SUV with catastrophic front-end damage and debris scattered around the intersection as police and firefighters worked nearby. The Garden Grove Police Department’s Neighborhood Traffic Unit is investigating what caused the SUV to leave the roadway and strike the utility pole.
