A woman was killed and another driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a violent crash in Los Angeles’ Koreatown neighborhood on August 28, 2026. Los Angeles police responded shortly after 12:30 a.m. to the area of West 8th Street and South Ardmore Avenue after receiving reports that a vehicle had crashed into a fire hydrant. Investigators said one vehicle was traveling southbound on Ardmore Avenue while another was traveling westbound on 8th Street when the vehicles collided. The force of the impact sent the vehicles careening into at least one parked car and caused extensive damage at the intersection. A Mercedes-Benz SUV also appeared to strike a utility meter and electrical box before coming to rest on the sidewalk. The collision sheared off a fire hydrant, sending water dozens of feet into the air.
The driver of a black sedan, identified only as a woman in her 30s, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second woman, believed to have been driving the Mercedes-Benz SUV, was transported from the crash scene by ambulance. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the surviving driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Authorities closed the surrounding streets for several hours while officers investigated the collision and crews addressed the extensive damage.
