A 15-year-old high school student was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash in Riverside on September 4, 2026. Riverside police responded to the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Myrtle Avenue at approximately 3:39 p.m. Investigators said a pickup truck driver was making a left turn from eastbound Victoria Avenue onto Myrtle Avenue when he struck the teenage pedestrian. The driver allegedly fled the scene without stopping to identify himself or provide assistance to the injured girl. The victim, a student at Riverside Polytechnic High School, was transported to a hospital with critical injuries. Police said the teenager remained hospitalized as investigators worked to identify the driver responsible for the collision.
Detectives used information provided by witnesses along with data from automated license plate reader systems to identify a 47-year-old Bloomington man as the suspected driver. After being contacted by investigators, the suspect turned himself in to police on September 10. Authorities also located the pickup truck believed to have been involved in the collision and impounded it as evidence. The man was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center. Riverside police continue investigating the collision while crediting community members, technology, and traditional investigative techniques with helping detectives develop leads in the case.
