A 72-year-old bicyclist was killed after being struck by a vehicle at a busy Santa Ana intersection on September 4, 2026. Santa Ana police officers who were working near McFadden Avenue and Fairview Street witnessed the collision shortly before 7 p.m. According to police, the bicyclist had begun traveling westbound on McFadden Avenue from Fairview Street when a vehicle traveling in the same direction struck him from behind. The impact knocked the 72-year-old man from his bicycle and onto the roadway. Officers immediately rushed to the victim and found him suffering from significant injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts at the scene, the bicyclist could not be saved and was pronounced dead.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity while they notify his family. The driver who struck the bicyclist stopped and remained at the scene following the collision. Police said the driver has been cooperating with investigators and did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances that caused the vehicle to rear-end the bicyclist. The Santa Ana Police Department continues investigating the fatal bicycle collision.
