A deadly four-vehicle crash in Los Angeles’ Harvard Park neighborhood is under investigation after police say a suspected DUI driver may have caused the violent chain-reaction collision while fleeing an earlier crash. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on June 22, 2026, near Vermont Avenue and Gage Avenue. According to LAPD Officer Ayers, officers were first called to the area around 12:40 a.m. after reports of a hit-and-run involving a damaged vehicle.
Investigators say that vehicle fled the original crash scene and continued westbound on Gage Avenue. Just a few blocks later, the suspect’s vehicle slammed into three other vehicles near Normandie Avenue. Preliminary findings indicate all of the impacted vehicles were traveling westbound when they were struck from behind by the fleeing driver.
Video from the scene showed debris scattered across the roadway and multiple heavily damaged vehicles. One dark-colored SUV appeared to have sustained severe front-end damage. Officer Ayers described the collision as one of the worst traffic scenes he had witnessed, noting that speed appeared to be a major factor.
Authorities confirmed that one person died in the crash. Police have not yet released the identity of the victim or confirmed which vehicle the person was in. Investigators continue examining whether DUI and excessive speed played a role in the deadly collision.
