A devastating crash in North Hollywood early Sunday morning, April 12, 2026, left two pedestrians dead and multiple others injured in a violent chain of events. The incident occurred around 2:25 a.m. along Colfax Avenue and was captured on surveillance video. Authorities allege that a suspected drunk driver was traveling at a high rate of speed in a gray Acura when the crash occurred.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the driver struck a man and a woman who had just exited a parked Toyota Camry. The male victim, believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The female victim, in her 50s, was transported to a hospital where she later died from her injuries.
After the initial impact, the driver continued down the street, crashing into the parked Camry and several other vehicles. The vehicle then slammed into a residential property, causing significant structural damage and leaving a large hole in the home. Surveillance footage shows the force and speed of the crash as it unfolded.
Three individuals inside the parked Camry sustained minor injuries during the collision. Fortunately, no one inside the home was physically injured despite the extensive damage. The driver, identified as 31-year-old Vidal Cruz Jr. of Pacoima, was taken into custody at the scene.
He has since been booked on two counts of murder, with bail set at $4 million. Investigators believe alcohol and excessive speed were major contributing factors in the crash. Neighbors described the incident as shocking and expressed concern over safety in the area.
Community members are now urging city officials to implement traffic calming measures, including speed bumps, to prevent future tragedies. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to review evidence and witness statements.
