A fatal hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles claimed the life of an 88-year-old pedestrian earlier this year, and authorities are now asking for the public’s help identifying the driver involved. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision occurred on April 1, 2026, at approximately 7:35 p.m. near Avalon Boulevard and East 49th Street.
Investigators said the victim was walking eastbound in a marked crosswalk on the north side of East 49th Street when he was struck by a possible black sedan traveling northbound on Avalon Boulevard. The impact left the elderly man with critical injuries. Authorities said the driver failed to stop, render aid, or remain at the scene as required by law.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded quickly and transported the victim to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, the man later succumbed to his injuries. His identity has not yet been publicly released by authorities.
Police continue searching for the driver responsible for the deadly collision. Investigators are urging anyone with information about the possible black sedan or the crash itself to come forward. The hit-and-run investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to identify the suspect and bring justice to the victim’s family.
At the Medler Law Firm, we are dedicated to helping victims of pedestrian accidents and their families pursue justice after devastating collisions. We understand that pedestrians often suffer catastrophic or fatal injuries because they have little protection against moving vehicles. Our team conducts detailed investigations to determine exactly how the accident occurred and who should be held accountable.
In hit-and-run cases, we move quickly to preserve evidence, locate witnesses, and review surveillance footage that may help identify the fleeing driver. Drivers who leave the scene of a collision violate the law and make an already tragic situation even more difficult for victims and families. Even when the at-fault driver cannot immediately be located, victims may still have legal options through uninsured motorist coverage and other available claims.
We fight for compensation for medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering, and wrongful death damages when families lose a loved one. Our firm handles all communication with insurance companies and aggressively advocates for the full compensation our clients deserve.
