One person was killed and another was injured in a crash involving a semi-truck on the 5 Freeway in Sun Valley on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. The collision occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on the northbound 5 Freeway near Sheldon Street. Preliminary information indicated that a white truck crashed into the rear of a semi-truck. Aerial footage from the scene showed the badly damaged white truck stopped in the roadway directly behind the big rig. The white truck sustained severe front-end damage, and another vehicle was also seen stopped near the crash scene. Firefighters attempted to free the driver of the white truck before determining that the victim had suffered fatal injuries.
One other person sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities shut down all northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway while emergency crews responded and investigators examined the collision. Motorists were diverted off the freeway at Sheldon Street, resulting in traffic reportedly backing up for several miles. Authorities have not yet released information regarding what caused the white truck to collide with the rear of the semi-truck or whether any additional factors contributed to the crash. The circumstances surrounding the fatal Sun Valley truck accident remain under investigation.
At the Medler Law Firm, we are dedicated to helping victims of truck accidents and their families recover the compensation they deserve after serious or fatal collisions. We thoroughly investigate truck crashes by obtaining police reports, interviewing witnesses, securing surveillance and traffic-camera footage, preserving physical evidence, and working with accident reconstruction experts when necessary. We also investigate the truck driver’s driving history, hours-of-service records, electronic logging data, onboard video, vehicle maintenance and inspection records, and the trucking company’s safety policies and practices. Because commercial truck accidents can involve multiple responsible parties, we examine potential liability involving the truck driver, trucking company, vehicle owner, contractors, maintenance providers, cargo companies, and other parties whose conduct may have contributed to the collision.
We fight to recover compensation for medical expenses, lost income, future medical care, loss of earning capacity, pain and suffering, and other damages resulting from serious truck accidents. When a truck accident results in death, we help surviving family members pursue wrongful death claims and investigate every available insurance policy and potential source of recovery. We handle negotiations with trucking companies and their insurers and are prepared to file a lawsuit and take the case to trial when necessary to protect our clients’ rights. At the Medler Law Firm, we stand beside truck accident victims and grieving families while aggressively pursuing accountability and the maximum compensation available under California law.
