A 45-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident in Los Angeles’ Historic South-Central neighborhood on August 25, 2026. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to San Pedro Street and East 20th Street shortly before 3 a.m. after receiving reports of a collision. When officers arrived, they discovered a pedestrian lying unresponsive in the roadway. Emergency personnel attempted to assist the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have identified the victim only as a 45-year-old man and have not released his name. Investigators determined that the driver who struck the pedestrian fled the scene without stopping to identify themselves or render aid.
Police have not yet released a description of the suspect, the vehicle involved, or its direction of travel after the collision. Video from the scene showed investigators examining the roadway and surrounding area for evidence as a canopy was erected near the sidewalk. San Pedro Street was closed between Washington Boulevard and 21st Street while officers conducted their investigation. Detectives are working to identify the hit-and-run driver and determine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
