Two people were killed in a single-vehicle crash in Encino early Friday morning, October 2, 2026. Los Angeles police received a report of a vehicle crashing into a tree near Burbank Boulevard and Balboa Boulevard shortly after 2 a.m. First responders arriving at the scene discovered two people inside the severely damaged vehicle. Video from the scene showed that the vehicle had traveled a considerable distance away from the roadway before striking the tree. Both occupants suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identities of either victim.
Investigators are working to determine what caused the driver to lose control and leave the roadway. Police have not announced whether speed, impairment, distraction, a mechanical problem, roadway conditions, or another factor may have contributed to the collision. The westbound lanes of Burbank Boulevard were closed while officers investigated the crash and collected evidence from the scene. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the circumstances immediately preceding the collision. The Los Angeles Police Department continues to investigate the fatal Encino crash.
At the Medler Law Firm, we are dedicated to helping victims of car accidents and their families recover the compensation they deserve after serious or fatal collisions. We thoroughly investigate crashes by obtaining police reports, securing surveillance and traffic-camera footage, interviewing witnesses, preserving physical evidence, and working with accident reconstruction experts when necessary. Even in single-vehicle accidents, we investigate whether dangerous roadway conditions, defective vehicle components, negligent maintenance, or the actions of another driver may have contributed to the collision. We also examine all available insurance policies and identify every person, company, or government entity that may bear responsibility for the accident.
We fight to recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, future medical care, loss of earning capacity, pain and suffering, and other damages caused by serious car accidents. When a passenger is killed, surviving family members may have a wrongful death claim against a negligent driver or other responsible parties, even when the crash involved only one vehicle. We handle negotiations with insurance companies and are prepared to file a lawsuit and take the case to trial when necessary to obtain fair compensation. At the Medler Law Firm, we stand beside car accident victims and their families while aggressively pursuing every available source of compensation.
