A woman suffered critical injuries in a crash involving two vehicles, a pedestrian, and a Waymo autonomous vehicle in Los Angeles’ Pico-Union neighborhood on the morning of July 26, 2026. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision was reported at approximately 5:44 a.m. in the 1000 block of Venice Boulevard, just north of the 10 Freeway. Investigators said the incident began when a vehicle traveling on Venice Boulevard struck a woman who was pushing a cart across the street. After hitting the pedestrian, the vehicle reportedly swerved into the opposite lane and collided with a Waymo self-driving vehicle. Emergency responders rushed the critically injured woman to a nearby hospital for treatment. Four additional people complained of pain and were evaluated and treated at the scene by emergency personnel.
The company, Waymo, said it is cooperating fully with first responders and investigators as they examine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not released information regarding the identities of those involved or whether any citations or arrests are expected. Investigators continue working to determine what caused the initial collision and whether speed, distraction, impairment, or another factor contributed to the crash. The Los Angeles Police Department’s investigation into the serious Venice Boulevard collision remains ongoing.
