A tragic crash in Manhattan Beach on June 9, 2026, claimed the life of a 61-year-old woman after an SUV crashed into a local laundromat. According to Manhattan Beach police, officers responded to Suds & Duds Coin Laundry at 975 Aviation Boulevard shortly after 6 p.m. following reports of a vehicle crashing into the building. Authorities said the driver lost control, drove onto the sidewalk, and smashed through several floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
The victim, identified as Ana Amaral Moreira, was struck during the violent collision and suffered fatal injuries. Witnesses at the scene described a chaotic and heartbreaking aftermath. One bystander, Bryson Garcia, said he heard a loud crash and saw people rushing to help. He recalled seeing the victim pinned beneath the vehicle and trapped between the SUV and a laundry machine.
Garcia said the driver appeared to be an elderly woman and was later escorted away by police. According to Garcia, the driver was heard saying her foot had become stuck on the pedal. Video footage from the scene showed the Mercedes-Benz SUV came to rest inside the laundromat after plowing through the storefront. Authorities have not yet released the driver’s identity. Investigators continue working to determine exactly what caused the deadly crash.
