21-Year-Old Driver Arrested After Hitting Two Pedestrians During Street Takeover

Two pedestrians suffered severe injuries after they were struck by a driver performing dangerous stunts during a street takeover in Northridge on July 26, 2026. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the crash occurred at the intersection of Plummer Street and Haskell Avenue. Investigators said a black 2014 Chevrolet Caprice was performing circular burnouts when it struck a young man and a young woman who were walking across the street. Video from the scene shows the male victim being thrown into the air by the impact, while the female victim’s lower right leg became trapped beneath the vehicle’s rear passenger-side wheel. Bystanders rushed into the intersection to pull the injured victims out of the roadway as the street takeover continued around them. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported both victims to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Police said the male victim suffered a serious head injury, while the female victim sustained severe injuries to her lower leg. Investigators identified the driver as 21-year-old Benjamin Witt of Santa Barbara, who allegedly fled the scene without stopping to render aid or identify himself. Detectives conducted an extensive investigation that ultimately led to Witt’s identification and arrest. Authorities allege that the driver left the scene despite the devastating injuries suffered by both pedestrians. The investigation into the Northridge street takeover hit-and-run remains ongoing as the criminal case proceeds.
